Send and receive money with Apple Cash

Use Apple Cash to send and receive money with people you know.

What you need

• A compatible device with the latest iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, or visionOS.

• Two-factor authentication set up for your Apple Account.

• Be signed in to the same Apple Account on any device you want to use to send or receive money.

• If you're sending money to someone, make sure that there's enough money on your Apple Cash card or that you have an eligible debit card in Wallet.

For your Apple Cash account to have FDIC insurance eligibility and full functionality, you may be asked to verify your identity.

Send money in the Messages app using Apple Cash

When you send money using Apple Cash,* your Apple Cash balance is used to pay by default. If you want to use a debit card instead, you can send money directly from your debit card.

On your iPhone

1. Open the Messages app, then start a new conversation or tap an existing one.

2. Tap the plus icon, then tap Apple Cash. Enter the amount you want to send, and tap Send.

3. Add a comment if you want it to appear in Latest Transactions for both you and the receiver.

   

4. Tap the Send button to review the payment.

5. If you want to send the money using your debit card instead, tap Change Payment Method.

   • Turn the Apple Cash slider off.

   • Tap your debit card to select it.

6. If you don't have enough money in your Apple Cash balance to send the payment, you can pay the remainder with your debit card.

   • Your Apple Cash card and debit card will appear on the screen, with the amounts that will be deducted from each card. 

7. Double-click the side button to pay, then confirm your payment with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

If you haven't added a debit card to the Wallet app, you need to add one to send money.

On your Apple Watch

1. Open the Messages app, then tap an existing conversation.

2. Tap the plus icon, then tap Apple Cash.

3. To change the amount, tap the minus or plus sign. You can also use the Digital Crown.

   

4. Tap Send, then review or cancel the payment.

5. Double-click the side button to send your payment.

Send money in the Wallet app using Apple Cash

1. On your iPhone, open the Wallet app. Then tap your Apple Cash card.

2. Tap Send or Request, then select or add the person you want to send money to.

   

3. Tap Next, then enter the amount you want to send.

4. Tap Send, then tap the Send button.

5. Double-click the side button to pay.

6. Confirm your payment with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

Set up a recurring payment in Wallet

You can send weekly, biweekly, or monthly Apple Cash payments with Apple Cash.

1. On your iPhone, open the Wallet app. Then tap your Apple Cash card.

2. Tap the More button, tap Recurring Payments, then tap New Recurring Payment.

   

3. Add the recipient, then follow the on-screen instructions to choose the dollar amount of each payment, the date you want the payments to start, and how often you'd like them sent. You can also add a memo to identify what the payments are for.

4. Tap Send, then tap the Send button to review the payment.

5. Double-click the side button to pay.

6. Confirm your payment with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

Edit, cancel, or pause a recurring payment

1. Open the Wallet app, tap your Apple Cash card, then tap the More button.

2. Tap Recurring Payments, tap the recurring payment, tap cancel or pause, or tap Edit to change any of the payment details.

Accept a payment in Wallet

When someone sends you money, it's securely received and kept in Apple Cash. You can use the money right away to spend with Apple Pay, send it to someone, or transfer it to your bank account or eligible debit card.

Verify your identity

When you accept a payment, you might be asked to verify your identity.

Accept payments automatically or manually

1. Open the Wallet app, then tap your Apple Cash card.

2. Tap the More button, then tap Card Details.

3. Tap Manually Accept Payments or Automatically Accept Payments.

When you have Manually Accept Payments enabled, to receive money sent to you, open the Messages conversation where you received the payment, tap Accept, and then follow the onscreen instructions. You have 7 days to accept the payment.

When you change the method of accepting payments, it updates on all your devices.

If you haven't set up Apple Cash

If someone sends you money in Messages and you don't have Apple Cash set up, you'll see Accept in the message. When you tap Accept, you'll be prompted to set up Apple Cash. Follow the onscreen instructions. You have 7 days to accept the payment.

Reject a payment in Wallet

1. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone, tap your Apple Cash card, then look for the payment in Latest Transactions.

2. Tap the payment, tap the payment again, then tap Reject Payment.

If you don't see an option to Reject Payment, then you may have already accepted the payment.

Use Messages to request a payment

When you send someone a payment request using Apple Cash, they can confirm or change the amount that they want to send.

On your iPhone

1. Open a conversation in the Messages app or start a new conversation.

2. Tap the plus icon, tap Apple Cash, enter the amount, then tap Request.

   

3. Tap the Send button to request the payment.

On your Apple Watch

1. Open the Messages app and choose a conversation.

2. Tap the plus icon, then tap Apple Cash.

3. Enter an amount, then swipe left on the Send button to show the Request button.

4. Tap Request.

Respond to a request for payment

On your iPhone

1. Open the request in the Messages app, then tap Pay on the message.

2. Review the amount to send. Tap the Send button to continue. You can also change the amount, and then tap Send.

3. Double-click the side button to pay.

4. Confirm your payment with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

To decline a request for money, you can ignore the message.

On your Apple Watch

1. Open the request in the Messages app, then tap Pay on the message.

2. Review the amount to send. Tap Send to continue.

3. You can use the Digital Crown if you want to change the amount. Then, tap Send.

4. Double-click the side button to confirm and send your payment.

If you sent a payment to someone and want to cancel it

In your Apple Cash transaction history, person-to-person payments appear with a name, phone number, or email address. If the transaction status says pending, the receiver hasn't accepted your payment yet, and you can cancel it.

Apple Cash person-to-person payments are like any other private transaction between two people, so only send and receive money with people you know.
