Get directions in Maps on Mac
You can get directions for driving, walking, taking public transit, or cycling. For driving routes, you can add multiple stops.
Note: Not all features are available in all countries or regions. See the macOS Feature Availability website.
Plan a route
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Do one of the following:
Click your destination, such as a landmark or pin on a map.
Click the blue Directions or Plan button. The button may appear with a travel type (
,
,
, or
) and estimated travel time near the top of the card.
If your current location is showing, Maps uses it as your starting location, but you can enter a different one. You can also drag
next to a location to swap your starting and ending locations.
Do any of the following:
Change your travel mode: Click the Drive
, Walk
, Transit
, or Cycle
button.
See the directions as steps: Click
next to a route. To share the steps, scroll down to the bottom of the steps, then click Share.
Tip: Click a step in the directions list to zoom in on it.
Set your preferences: Click Options, make choices relevant to your travel mode—such as things to avoid (tolls, highways, hills, busy roads, and stairs), or for transit, the vehicles you prefer (bus, rail, or ferry)—then click
.
Note: The Options button (below Directions near the top of the card) changes to reflect the options you choose.
Plan for a later time: While looking at driving or transit directions only, click Options, click Leave At or Arrive By, enter a date and time, then click
. Maps calculates travel time based on current traffic and schedules.
If you have an iPhone or an iPad model with Wi-Fi + Cellular, you can share your ETA as you travel. See Share your estimated time of arrival in Maps on iPhone or iPad.
When you’re signed in to the same Apple Account on your Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, you can share directions or sync searches from your Mac to your other devices. Synced searches appear below Recents in the Maps app on an iPhone or iPad.
