Keychain Access: If you’re asked frequently to unlock your keychain
If you are frequently asked to unlock your keychain, your user password may be out of sync with the keychain login password. When a new user is created, the user password and the keychain login password are the same. When you log in to your computer, Keychain Access automatically unlocks the login keychain and there is no need for you to unlock your keychain.
Under some circumstances, if, for example, the user password is changed, it can get out of sync with the keychain login password.
Sync your keychain login and user password
-
Choose Edit > Change Password for Keychain “login.”
-
If the keychain is locked, enter the previous user password, then click OK.
-
If you entered the correct password, a new window appears. Enter the previous user password again in the Current Password field.
-
Enter the current user password in the New Password field.
-
Reenter the current user password in the Verify field, then click OK.
If you don’t remember your previous user password
If you don’t remember your previous user password, you need to reset your default keychain. Resetting the default keychain deletes all the passwords saved in the keychain, but should allow you to sync up.
-
Choose Keychain Access > Preferences, then click General.
-
Click Reset My Default Keychain.
-
In the Finder, choose Apple menu > Log Out. When you log in again, save your current password in a keychain.
