iPhone: Using Call Waiting

You can make or receive another call while you’re already on the phone. If you receive a second call, iPhone beeps and shows the caller’s information and a list of options.

Put a caller on hold and make a second call

Tap Add Call and make a second call.

Respond to an incoming call

Do one of the following:
  • To ignore the call and send it to voicemail, tap Ignore.
  • To hold the first call and answer the new call, tap Hold Call + Answer.
  • To end the first call and answer the new one, tap End Call + Answer.

Switch back to the first call and put the second call on hold Tap the first call at the top of the screen, or tap Swap.
Merge the two calls, so all three of you can talk Tap Merge Calls.

Activate or deactivate call waiting

From the Home screen choose Settings > Phone > Call Waiting, then turn Call Waiting on or off. If you turn call waiting off and someone calls you when you're already on the phone, the call goes to voicemail.
