Archived - Mac OS X: "You need to restart your computer" Alert Appears

In Mac OS X 10.2 or later, the older style kernel panic message is replaced with an alert that says you need to restart your computer.

Symptom

You see this alert message:
    "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."

Solution
