Font Book 198: Create a new font collection
Font collections listed in the bottom part of the Collection column group fonts so they’re easier to find when you apply the fonts. Your Mac comes with several predefined collections in this area (such as Fun and Web), but you can create your own using Font Book.
The collections you create in Font Book appear in the Fonts window, which you use to apply fonts in applications such as TextEdit and Mail. The Fonts window also lets you create font collections, as described in:
Collections you create in the Fonts window are visible in Font Book.
- In Font Book, choose File > New Collection or click the Add button (+) below the Collection column.
- Type a name for the collection.
- Select the Collection column entry that contains fonts you want to associate with your new collection. Then drag fonts from the Font column to the new collection.
You can add the same font to as many collections in the bottom part of the Collection column as you want, but you can’t add fonts to the English collection. When you add a font to a collection, you’re not duplicating the actual font, you’re only creating a reference to it.
If you add a font in the Network collection to a collection, you can access the font only when your computer is connected to the network computer on which the font resides.
If you add a font in a font library and the font is located on an external hard drive, you can access the font only when your computer is connected to the external drive.
