iDVD ‘09 (7.x): Making a Magic iDVD
The Magic iDVD feature of iDVD lets you create a professional-quality DVD with minimal effort. You choose the theme and content you want to include, and iDVD puts it all together into a finished project.
To make a Magic iDVD, you must already have a movie that is accessible from the Movies pane in iDVD or from a server or an external hard disk. With Magic iDVD, you can’t import footage directly from your camera and make a finished movie from it.
To create a Magic iDVD:
Open iDVD and click the “Create a Magic iDVD” button. (If a recent project opens, choose File > Magic iDVD.)
Type a title for the DVD in the DVD Title box.
Select a theme in the row of theme thumbnails. To see more themes, click the pop-up menu.
Click the Movies button on the right of the iDVD window.
Drag one or more movies you want to include from the Movies pane into the wells provided under the Drop Movies Here heading.
You can also drag files from anywhere on your hard disk or connected servers. You don’t need to fill all the wells. If you want to create a DVD of slideshows only, you don’t have to add any movies to your project.
If you want to include a slideshow in your DVD, click the Photos button on the right of the iDVD window.
From the Images pane, drag albums or images from iPhoto, Aperture, or your folders into the wells provided under the Drop Photos Here heading in the Magic iDVD window.
You can also drag files from anywhere on your hard disk or connected servers. You don’t need to fill all the wells. iDVD treats what you add to each well as a slideshow, so don’t drag just a single photo into a well; drag several photos or an entire album.
If you want to add a soundtrack to a slideshow, click the Audio button on the right of the iDVD window.
Drag an audio file from the Audio pane and drop it on top of a slideshow.
You can also drag files from anywhere on your hard disk or connected servers. A speaker icon appears on the slideshow to indicate that it contains a soundtrack. You can add a separate soundtrack to each slideshow.
Click the Preview button in the lower left of the window to view your DVD.
Use the iDVD remote control that appears to click buttons, play movies, and view slideshows. When you’re finished previewing, click Exit on the remote control to return to the Magic iDVD window.
Make any adjustments to your content and theme selection, and when you’re ready, click Create Project.
iDVD saves the project and opens it in an iDVD window so you can edit it further if you want.
If, after previewing your project, you are ready to burn it to a DVD right away, click the Burn button in the lower right of the iDVD window. Insert a disc when you are prompted to do so.
As with any iDVD project, it may take a while to complete the burning process.
