iCal keyboard shortcuts

You can use your keyboard to quickly accomplish many tasks in iCal.

Option Description

Calendar shortcuts

 

Command (⌘)-Right Arrow

Go to the next day, week, month, or year

Command (⌘)-Left Arrow

Go to the previous day, week, month, or year

Space bar (with the Calendars pop-up list open)

Select or deselect the checkbox next to the selected calendar in the Calendars pop-up list

Command (⌘)-click any calendar’s checkbox (with the Calendars pop-up list open)

Select or deselect all the checkboxes next to calendars in the Calendars pop-up list

Event shortcuts

 

Tab

Select the next event or reminder in the main calendar view or in the Reminders list

Shift-Tab

Select the previous event or reminder in the main calendar view or in the Reminders list

Arrow keys

Select the next or previous event, or the first event to the left or right

Control-click the event, then choose a calendar from the pop-up menu

Move an event to another calendar

Shift-Control-Right Arrow

Move the selected event to the next day

Shift-Control-Left Arrow

Move the selected event to the previous day

Shift-Control-Up Arrow

In Day or Week view, make the selected event end 15 minutes sooner

Shift-Control-Down Arrow

In Day or Week view, make the selected event end 15 minutes later

Control-Option-Up Arrow

Move the selected event 15 minutes earlier (in Day or Week view); move the selected event one week earlier (in Month view)

Control-Option-Down Arrow

Move the selected event 15 minutes later (in Day or Week view); move the selected event one week later (in Month view)

Open iCal preferences

Command (⌘)-H

Hide the iCal application

Option-Command (⌘)-H

Hide all other applications

Command (⌘)-Q

Quit the iCal application

File menu shortcuts

 

Command (⌘)-N

Create a new event

Command (⌘)-K

Create a new reminder

Shift-Command (⌘)-N

Create a new calendar group

Command (⌘)-W

Close the iCal window

Command (⌘)-P

Print calendars and reminders

Edit menu shortcuts

 

Command (⌘)-Z

You can repeatedly press Command (⌘)-Z to undo each of your actions in reverse order. To see which actions you can undo, open the Edit menu.

Undo your last action

Shift-Command (⌘)-Z

Redo your last action

Command (⌘)-X

Cut the selected text or event

Command (⌘)-C

Copy the selected text or event

Command (⌘)-V

Paste the cut or copied text or event

Command (⌘)-A

Select all text or all events in the current calendar

Command (⌘)-D

Duplicate the selected text or event

Command (⌘)-E

Edit the selected event

Command (⌘)-I

Show information for a calendar, event, or reminder

Show or hide the editor for an event or reminder

Command (⌘)-F

Make the iCal search field active

Shift-Command (⌘)-Colon

Show the “Spelling and Grammar” window

Refresh the selected calendar

Refresh all calendar accounts, and all published, shared, or subscribed calendars

Switch to Day view

Switch to Week view

Cycle through open iCal windows
