Shortcuts for Universal Access preferences

Use keyboard shortcuts to turn Universal Access preferences on or off.

NOTE: If you’re working on a portable computer, or have a keyboard whose function keys (keys with “F1,” “F2,” and so on) also include an icon (such as a volume or brightness control icon), press the Fn key in combination with the other keys listed here. For example, to open VoiceOver Utility, press Fn-Control-Option-F8.

Action Shortcut

Turn VoiceOver on or off

⌘-F5

Open VoiceOver Utility

Control-Option-F8. (You must first turn on VoiceOver.)

Turn zoom on or off

Option-⌘-8

Zoom in

Option-⌘-Equal Sign (=)

Zoom out

Option-⌘-Hyphen (-)

Turn image smoothing on or off

Option-⌘-Backslash (\)

Display the zoom window when needed

Hold down Control-Option. Release to close the window.

Switch to white on black, or black on white

Control-Option-⌘-8

Reduce the contrast of the display

Control-Option-⌘-Comma (,)

Increase the contrast of the display

Control-Option-⌘-Period (.)

Turn Sticky Keys on or off

Press the Shift key five times. (You must first turn on Sticky Keys.)

Turn Mouse Keys on or off

Press the Option key five times. (You must first turn on Mouse Keys.)
