Pages for iOS (iPhone, iPod touch): Use iCloud with Pages

With iOS 8, you have the option to use iCloud Drive or iCloud Documents & Data. However, if you use Documents & Data on other devices or computers with earlier operating systems after you upgrade your iCloud account to use iCloud Drive, syncing won’t work in all cases. Set up Pages to use iCloud

To use iCloud, you must sign in with your Apple ID in Settings, and make sure iCloud is turned on in Pages.

  1. Tap Settings on your Home screen, then tap iCloud.

  2. Sign in to your account using your Apple ID, or request a new Apple ID and then sign in.

  3. Tap iCloud Drive (or Documents & Data) and turn it on.

  4. Turn on Pages.

    This setting allows Pages to store documents in iCloud.

  5. Tap the back arrow to return to the first Settings screen, then scroll down to the apps at the bottom.

  6. Tap Pages, then turn on Use iCloud.

When iCloud is turned off in Pages on this device, edits you make or new documents that you create aren’t saved to iCloud, and new or changed documents on other devices or on your computer aren’t available in Pages on this device.

Tips for managing documents across devices

Here are a few things to keep in mind about using iCloud to manage your documents across devices:

If you edit and then close a document when you’re not connected to the Internet, an upward-pointing arrow appears in the document thumbnail. The next time you connect to the Internet, the edited document is saved to iCloud.

If you edit a document on more than one computer or device before your edits are saved, you will see conflicts. Make sure the app has had time to save your changes to iCloud before editing the same document on another device. If you do get a conflict, you can choose to preserve any or all of the documents you edited.

If you delete a document, it’s deleted from iCloud and from Pages on all your devices.

If you use folders to organize your documents, the same folder organization applies on all your devices.

If you add a password to a document on one device, it’s required to open the document on all your devices.

In addition to Pages on your Mac, iPad, and iPhone or iPod touch, you can use Pages for iCloud beta on the web. Documents you create using Pages for iCloud beta are automatically available in Pages on your Mac or iOS devices that are set up to use iCloud—and vice versa: If you create a document using Pages on an iOS device or a Mac, the document appears automatically on the web in Pages for iCloud beta. To use Pages for iCloud beta, you need to upgrade your iCloud account to use iCloud Drive.
