Use iCloud with Pages

iCloud stores your documents and keeps them up-to-date across your iOS devices, the web, and your computer so that you always have the most current versions at hand, no matter which device you used to make your latest edits.

Pages for iCloud beta

Pages for iCloud beta is a web app you can use to create and edit Pages documents using a supported web browser on a Mac or Windows computer. You can access it by logging in to your account on For information about its features, see Pages for iCloud beta Help.

To use Pages for iCloud beta, you need to upgrade your iCloud account to use iCloud Drive.

iCloud Drive and iCloud Documents & Data

If you’re using iOS 8 on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you have the option of upgrading to iCloud Drive. If you need to access documents on OS X or older versions of iOS, you can keep using iCloud Documents & Data until you're ready to upgrade.

Note:   If you’ve upgraded your iCloud account to use iCloud Drive, syncing may not work in all cases, depending on which versions of OS X and iOS you have installed. See this Apple Support article for more information.

Set up Pages to use iCloud

To use iCloud, you must sign in with your Apple ID in Settings, and make sure iCloud is turned on in Pages.

  1. Tap Settings on your Home screen, then tap iCloud.

  2. Sign in to your account using your Apple ID, or request a new Apple ID and then sign in.

  3. Tap Documents & Data (or iCloud Drive if you upgraded) and turn it on if it’s off.

  4. Turn on Pages.

    This setting allows Pages to store documents in iCloud.

  5. On the left side of Settings, then scroll down to the apps at the bottom.

  6. Tap Pages, then turn on Use iCloud.

When iCloud is turned off in Pages on this device, edits you make or new documents that you create aren’t saved to iCloud, and new or changed documents on other devices or on your computer aren’t available in Pages on this device.

Tips for managing documents across devices

Here are a few things to keep in mind about using iCloud to manage your documents across devices:

If you edit and close a document when you’re not connected to the Internet, an upward-pointing arrow appears in the document thumbnail. The next time you connect to the Internet, the edited document is saved to iCloud.

If you edit a document on more than one device before your edits are saved, you will see conflicts. Make sure the app has had time to save your changes to iCloud before editing the same document on another device. If you do get a conflict, you can choose to preserve any or all of the documents you edited.

If you delete a document, it’s deleted from iCloud and from Pages on all your devices.

If you organize your documents into folders on one device, you see the same folder organization on all your devices.

If you change the title of a document on one device, the title is changed on all your devices.

If you add a password to your document on one device, you need to enter the password to access the document on all your devices.
