Other pane of Parental Controls System Preferences

Use the Other pane of Parental Controls System Preferences to restrict the following activities for the child or other managed user selected on the left: enabling Siri and Dictation, editing printers and scanners, burning CDs and DVDs, accessing inappropriate content in Dictionary, and modifying the Dock. From this pane, you can also set up a simplified and protected environment for the child.

To view these preferences, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Parental Controls, click the lock icon to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password. Select a user, then click Other.

Turn off Siri & Dictation

Prevent the child from accessing Siri (using the Dock icon, menu bar icon, or keyboard shortcut), changing settings in Siri preferences, and turning on Dictation in the Dictation pane of Keyboard preferences.

Disable editing of printers and scanners

Prevent the child from changing printer and scanner settings.

Block CD and DVD burning in the Finder

Prevent the child from burning CDs and DVDs on the Mac.

Restrict explicit language in Dictionary

Filter inappropriate words from Dictionary.

Prevent the Dock from being modified

Prevent the child from adding items to or removing items from the Dock.

Use Simple Finder

Provide a simplified and protected environment for the selected user. You can limit access to apps, files, and menus, and prevent children from performing certain activities. For more information, see Set up a simplified Finder.

Logs

Monitor a child’s use of the Mac. Click Logs to get information on the child’s app and Internet activities. For more information, see Monitor children’s computer usage.
