An aspect ratio is the ratio of an image’s width to its height.
In iMovie, you must choose one of two possible aspect ratios for all of your projects:
Widescreen (16:9):Makes the movie appear much wider than it is high. Choose this option if you’ll be viewing your movie on a widescreen computer displays or a high-definition TV (HDTV). When viewed on a standard-definition television or computer display, the movie appears with black areas above and below. This view is sometimes referred to as “letterbox.”
Standard (4:3):Makes the movie more square in shape. Choose this option if you’ll be viewing your movie on a standard-definition TV or computer monitor. When viewed on an HDTV, the movie appears with black areas on the left and right. This view is sometimes referred to as “pillarbox.”
