Messages (El Capitan): Send a group message

Send a group message

You can send a message to a group of people, then name your group conversation so that it’s easier to keep track of and find.

  1. In the Messages window, click the Compose button .

  2. Enter contact information for the group of people you want to send a message to.

If you created a group in Contacts, enter the group name in the To field.

Important:   If you’re sending a group message via iMessage, everyone in the group must have a phone number or have an email address registered with iMessage. If you have an iPhone with iOS 8, you can send a message as an SMS to group members who have a phone number, even those who aren’t registered with iMessage. For more information, see Get and send SMS messages.
  3. Enter your text, then press Return.

  4. To give a title to the group chat, click Details, click Group Name, then enter a name.
