OS X El Capitan: If you turn off iCloud Drive on your Mac

If you turn off iCloud Drive on your Mac

If you turn off the iCloud Drive feature in iCloud preferences or Internet Accounts preferences, your documents and data stored in iCloud Drive are removed from your Mac, and your Mac apps can no longer access them. If you turn iCloud Drive on again, your iCloud documents become available on your Mac.

Before turning off iCloud Drive, you can copy documents from iCloud Drive to your Mac. These local copies aren’t updated automatically if you use another device to change the original iCloud documents. For instructions on copying documents from iCloud, see Store documents with iCloud Drive.

After turning off iCloud Drive in iCloud preferences, you still have access to your iCloud Drive documents by using the iCloud Drive app on iCloud.com. If your other devices have iCloud Drive turned on, they also continue to have your most recent iCloud Drive documents and data.

Note:   Drafts of documents you haven’t saved yet may be automatically saved for you in iCloud Drive, so that you can continue working on them. Since such documents are saved automatically, you can’t access them on iCloud.com, but they’re available on all your devices that use iCloud Drive.
