What is iTunes?

iTunes has everything you need to be entertained—whenever you want, wherever you are.

With iTunes, you can:

  • Organize and play your music and video

  • Play or download unlimited songs with Apple Music (with a paid subscription)

  • Find music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, free podcasts, and more in the iTunes Store

  • Set up your iPod, iPhone, or iPad, and add music, video, and more to it

Everything happens in this one window:

View of the iTunes window: The iTunes window has two panes. On the left is the Library sidebar, which contains all your digital media. On the right, in the larger content area, you can view a selection you’re interested in—for example, visit your library or your For You page, browse new iTunes music and video, or visit the iTunes Store to download new music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and more. To the upper right of the Library sidebar is the Device button, which shows that your iPod, iPhone, or iPad is connected to your Mac.
