Mail (Yosemite): Mark up attachments

Move the pointer over the image or PDF attachment in your message, click the Action button
in the upper-right corner of the attachment, then choose Markup.If you don’t see the button, you may need to enable Markup. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Extensions, click Actions, then select the Markup checkbox.

Use the tools to mark up the attachment.
You can adjust how much of the attachment is shown at any time: move the pointer near the edges, then drag the blue handles.

Sketch (
): Draw a shape using a single stroke. If your drawing is recognized as a standard shape, it’s replaced by that shape; to use your drawing, choose it from the palette that’s shown. -
Shapes (
): Click a shape, then drag it where you want. To resize the shape, drag the blue handles. If it has green handles, drag them to alter the shape. -
Zoom (
): Drag the lens where you want. To increase or decrease the zoom, drag the green handle; drag the blue handle to change the lens size. The Zoom tool is available in the Shapes palette. -
Highlight (
): Drag the highlight where you want. To resize it, use the blue handles. The Zoom tool is available in the Shapes palette. -
Text (
): Type your text, then drag the text box where you want. -
Sign (
): Click a signature, then drag it where you want. To resize it, use the blue handles. Signatures you create in other apps that use Markup, such as Preview, are listed.-
Create a signature using your trackpad: Click Trackpad, click the text as prompted, sign your name on the trackpad using your finger, then click Done. If you don’t like the results, click Clear, then try again.

Create a signature using your computer’s built-in camera: Click Camera. Hold your signature (on white paper) facing the camera so that your signature is level with the blue line in the window. When your signature appears in the window, click Done. If you don’t like the results, click Clear, then try again.

You can change certain attributes of selected drawings, shapes, text, and signatures:

Change the line style: Click the Shape Style button

Change the line color: Click the Border Color button
. -
Change the fill color: Click the Fill Color button
. -
Change the font or font style: Click the Text Style button
.

When you’re finished, click Done.
You can change or add annotations until you send your message. Once sent, your annotations become part of the image or PDF, and you and your recipients can’t modify them.
