The Mac OS Extended format file system uses a journaling technique to help protect the integrity of a hierarchical file system. It can be case sensitive to folder names. For example, a case-sensitive disk distinguishes between folders named “Homework” and “HoMeWOrk,” and recognizes them as two different folders. This file system also provides an encryption option you can use to protect data on a disk.
