Switch quickly between users

If your Mac has multiple users, you can turn on fast user switching to let more than one user stay logged in at the same time. You can quickly choose another user from the menu bar.

Turn on fast user switching

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Users & Groups, then click Login Options.

  2. Click the lock icon to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password.

  3. Select “Show fast user switching menu as,” then choose how users are displayed in the menu bar from the pop-up menu.

Quickly switch between users

  1. Click the fast user switching icon in the menu bar, then select another user.

  2. Enter the user’s password, then click the arrow to log in.

  3. To display the login window when you’re finished working, open the fast user switching menu, then choose Login Window.
