OS X Yosemite: About storing your recovery key with Apple

About storing your recovery key with Apple

When you turn on FileVault encryption, a recovery key is created as a safety net so that if you forget your login password, you can reset it. If you have an iCloud account you can have Apple save your recovery key for you. For more information, see My Apple ID website.

If your Mac is part of an organization that has a corporate FileVault account and an administrator configured the encryption settings of your Mac, ask your administrator for help with unlocking your encrypted information and resetting your password.
