iTunes 10 for Windows: iTunes Advanced preferences (iTunes 10.2 and later)
Changes you make to preferences take effect when you close the preferences window.
| Preference | Explanation |
|---|---|
| iTunes Media folder location | To change where songs and other files you import into iTunes are located, click Change. To change back to the original location for files (Home/Music/iTunes), click Reset. |
| Keep iTunes Media folder organized | Automatically put imported music into folders for album and artist. |
| Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library | Copy an item to the iTunes Media folder when you drag the item to the iTunes window or choose File > “Add to Library.” If you want items to appear in iTunes but also remain in their original location, deselect this checkbox. For example, you can keep music imported from CDs on your computer’s hard disk, and save your video files on an external hard disk. Pressing the Option key while dragging temporarily reverses the current checkbox setting. |
| Reset all dialog warnings | If you selected “Do not show this message again” in one or more dialogs (small windows with messages in them), clicking Reset makes the messages appear again, as if you’d just opened iTunes for the first time. |
| Reset iTunes Store cache | iTunes saves the store pages you visit on your computer in a temporary location called the “cache.” If you return later, iTunes can retrieve the page from the cache faster than getting it from the Internet. If the content on a page seems outdated, you may want to reset the cache to make iTunes retrieve the latest version of the page. If you think a page is not opening properly, resetting the cache may help. |
| Warn me if iTunes is not the default player for audio files | iTunes displays a warning if another application is the default audio player. |
| Keep Mini Player on top of all other windows | Keep the Mini Player (the iTunes window after you click the green zoom button) in front of all open windows, even while you use applications other than iTunes. |
| Keep movie window on top of all other windows | When playing video in a separate window, keep the movie window in front of all open windows, even while you use applications other than iTunes. |
| Show iTunes icon in system tray | Display or hide the iTunes icon in the notification area of the Windows taskbar. |
