Contacts (Mavericks): Use Smart Groups

Use Smart Groups in Contacts

A Smart Group is created automatically based on criteria you specify. For example, create a group that contains members of your swim club by creating a Smart Group for contacts with “swim” in the notes field. Every time you enter “swim” in a notes field, the contact is added to the Smart Group. Smart Groups can include contacts from any account.

Create a Smart Group

  1. Choose File > New Smart Group.
  2. Enter a name.
  3. Use the pop-up menus and text field to set conditions. Click Add (+) to set additional conditions.

If you include a group in a condition (by choosing “Card is member of” or “Card is not member of”), you can’t delete that group until you change the condition or delete the Smart Group.

  4. Click OK.

Edit a Smart Group

Select the group, then choose Edit > Edit Smart Group.

Rename a Smart Group

  1. Select the group, then click the group’s name.
  2. Enter a new name, then press Return.
