iBooks keyboard shortcuts and gestures

Use your keyboard, Multi-Touch trackpad, or Magic Mouse to quickly accomplish many tasks in iBooks.

Keyboard shortcuts

Option Description
Command (⌘)-N Add a new collection to your library
Shift-Command (⌘)-O Add books to your library
Command (⌘)-D Bookmark the page you're currently viewing
Command (⌘)-T Show the book’s Table of Contents
Shift-Command (⌘)-T Show the book’s Thumbnail Table of Contents
Command (⌘)-3 Show your notes in the book's margins
Command (⌘)-4 Show all notes and highlights in the Notes panel
Command (⌘)-5 Show study cards for the book
Command (⌘)-6 Show the book’s glossary
Command (⌘)-1 See one page at a time
Command (⌘)-2 See two pages at a time
Control-Command (⌘)-F Switch to full screen view
Right Arrow Go to the next page, or go to the next image, callout, or question in expanded interactive media
Left Arrow Go to the previous page, or go to the previous image, callout, or question in expanded interactive media
Shift-Command (⌘)-Right Arrow Go to the next chapter
Shift-Command (⌘)-Left Arrow Go to the previous chapter
Command (⌘)-Left bracket ([) Go back to your previous spot in the book
Command (⌘)-Right bracket (]) Go forward to your original spot in the book
Shift-Command (⌘)-H Open the iBooks Store homepage
Command (⌘)-L Open your iBooks library

Gestures

Option Description
Swipe left or right Go to the next or previous page
Swipe left or right when the pointer is over a gallery Go to the next or previous gallery image
Pinch open when the pointer is over interactive media Enlarge the feature

When you’re done, pinch closed

Pinch closed in a book with a graphical Table of Contents The graphical TOC opens
