Open an app by overriding Security & Privacy preferences

To open an app that isn’t allowed to open you can manually override the Gatekeeper settings in Security & Privacy preferences.

The app is saved as an exception to your security settings, and you will be able to open it in the future by double-clicking it, just like any authorized app.

  1. In the Finder, locate the app you want to open. Most apps can be found in the Applications folder.
  2. Press the Control-key, then click the app.
  3. Choose Open from the shortcut menu.
  4. Click Open.
