About the Apple Remote

If you have an Apple Remote, you can use it to control some features on your Mac, Apple TV, or iOS devices from across the room. For example, from a distance you can play music from iTunes or from your iPod (using the Apple Universal Dock), navigate through your Keynote presentations, or remotely control your Apple TV. Using the remote, you can change the sound volume, navigate lists and menus, start and pause playback, and more.

The Apple Remote operates on an infrared (IR)-based transmitter, and works with Apple devices that have an infrared receiver. If the remote has an unobstructed line of sight to the receiver, it can function at distances of up to 30 feet.

If your computer didn’t come with an Apple Remote, you can purchase one from an Apple retailer.
