Fix iMessage issues

If you have trouble with iMessage, try the suggestions below.

  • List all of the email addresses in the “You can be reached for messages at” list. You can find this list by choosing Messages > Preferences, and then selecting iMessage in the Accounts pane.

Check your email at all addresses marked as “Validating.” Click the Verify Now link in the verification emails you receive.

  • Check with your friends to see if they’re messaging you at an email address listed in the “You can be reached for messages at” list or if they’re sending messages to a phone number.

Messages can send messages to a phone number, but it can’t receive messages sent to a phone number.

  • If you send messages to a phone number, your friend will receive the message on iPhone, but not in Messages on Mac, iPad, or iPod touch.
  • If you can’t receive messages on your mobile device, make sure it has iOS 5.0 or later installed, a valid Wi-Fi or cellular connection, and is properly configured.

To configure your device, tap Settings, then Messages on your device, turn on iMessage, and then add your email addresses and phone numbers to the Receive At list.
