Get notifications in one place

See what’s new with you in one place. Your new email, messages, upcoming reminders and events, missed video calls, and more appear in one simple, ordered list. Notifications vary by app, but may include text or sound alerts, and a numbered badge on the app icon.

Open Notification Center

You can open Notification Center from anywhere in OS X, even from a full-screen app. To open Notification Center, do one of the following:

  • Click the Notification Center icon on the right side of the menu bar.
  • Swipe left from the right edge of your trackpad.

Temporarily turn off all alerts and banners

Open Notification Center, scroll to the top, and then click ON.

The slider switches to OFF.

(You can also hold down the Option key and click the Notification Center icon in the menu bar.)

Respond to or see more about a notification

  • Open Notification Center, and then click a notification.
  • Click Show in an alert.

The notification’s app opens.

Repeat an alert

Click Snooze in the alert.

The alert reappears fifteen minutes later.

Share from Notification Center

If you have certain accounts set up, such as Facebook or Twitter, you can share items to those accounts directly from Notification Center.

To share something, open Notification Center, and then click the account’s sharing button.

If you don’t see a share button in Notification Center, make sure the button is listed among the In Notification Center apps in Notifications preferences.
