If you want to scan but can’t find your scanner in the list of available scanners, or if the scan doesn’t finish, try these solutions.
- If you’re pressing a button on your scanner to perform the scan, use an app instead, such as Image Capture or Preview.

- Make sure the scanner is plugged into an electric outlet and turned on, and that its cables are securely connected.
- If the scanner is connected to another computer:
-
Make sure the computer that’s sharing the scanner is using OS X Mountain Lion, and that someone is logged in to the computer.
-
Make sure the “Share this scanner on the network” option is selected for the scanner.
-
- If the scanner is connected to an AirPort base station’s USB port, connect the scanner to a USB port on your computer or another computer on your network. You can also connect your scanner to an Ethernet port on your base station, if your scanner has an Ethernet port.
- Use another app to perform the scan. For example, use Image Capture or go to the website for the scanner’s manufacturer to see what other apps are recommended.
- If more than one user is logged in to your computer, log out every user. Then log in again and try to scan.
