OS X Mountain Lion: If a Time Machine backup is interrupted

If a Time Machine backup is interrupted

Occasionally a Time Machine backup may be interrupted. For example, if you accidentally disconnect the backup disk, or if you’re backing up to a disk on a network and there’s a network problem, Time Machine may not be able to finish a backup. As soon as the problem is corrected, Time Machine resumes the backup where it stopped.

If Time Machine is interrupted the first time it backs up your computer, when the backup is resumed it may take a little more time than an uninterrupted backup.

To start a Time Machine backup at any time, open the Time Machine menu in the menu bar, and then choose Back Up Now.

If the Time Machine menu isn’t in the menu bar, open Time Machine preferences and select “Show Time Machine status in menu bar.”
