OS X Mountain Lion: Troubleshoot a USB printer
If you can’t print to a printer connected to your computer’s USB port, first try the suggestions in this help topic:
If those suggestions don’t solve your problem, try the suggestions here.
Make sure your computer recognizes the printer
Open System Information, and then click USB.
If the printer appears but does not work, the problem might be with the printer. Review the printer’s documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
If the printer doesn’t appear, make sure it’s properly connected to your computer’s USB port.
Check with the computer’s administrator
If you’re not an administrator for the computer, check with someone who is to make sure you’re in the list of people who can use the printer.
Use the best software for your printer
Make sure you have the latest version of the software for your printer. If you still have problems, try different printer software for your printer.
Replace a corrupted printer queue
If none of the previous solutions work, the printer’s queue may be corrupted.
- In Print & Scan preferences, delete and set up your printer again.
- If you still can’t print, reset the printing system. This removes all printers from your list of printers, deletes information about completed print jobs, and deletes any printer presets.
