Set advanced Wi-Fi options

You can set advanced Wi-Fi options, such as IPv6 settings, DNS, proxy, WINS server settings, and more.

Set advanced networking options

You can also set some advanced AirPort specific options, such as joining a preferred network, and requiring an administrator password to control AirPort.

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.

If you have several networks listed, drag the name of the network you want Wi-Fi to try first to the top of the list.

  2. Select Wi-Fi in the network connection services list.

If Wi-Fi isn’t in the list, make sure you have an AirPort card installed in your computer, and then click Add (+) at the bottom of the list. Choose Wi-Fi from the Interface pop-up menu, give the Wi-Fi service a name, and then click Create.

  3. Click Advanced, and then select the options you want to set up:
    • Click Add (+) at the bottom of the Preferred Networks list and choose a wireless network to add to the list.

    • Select “Remember any network this computer has joined” to add a network you joined to the Preferred Networks list.

    • Select any action (such as ”Turn Wi-Fi on or off”) that you want to require an administrator password for.
