Keep your Mac up to date

Periodically, Apple releases free updates to your computer’s software. You can check for updates manually or set your Mac to check for updates automatically. These updates include important security updates that protect your computer from potential threats.

If you’re looking for a specific update and don’t see it in the Mac App Store, you can search for it on the Apple Support Downloads website.

  2. Select “Automatically check for updates.”
    • If you want your Mac to download updates without asking, select “Download newly available updates in the background.”
