OS X Mountain Lion: If you don’t see Wi-Fi in Network preferences
This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.
If your computer has an Wi-Fi card installed and you don’t see the Wi-Fi icon in the list of network connection services, the Wi-Fi service may not be selected.
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
- Click Add (+) at the bottom of the list.
- Choose Wi-Fi from the Interface pop-up menu. By default the service is named Wi-Fi, but you can provide any name for the service.
- Click Create and enter settings for the AirPort service, such as the network name, or click Advanced to set other options.
The order of the network connection services in the list determines which service is tried first when connecting to the Internet. Choose Set Service Order from the Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear) to change the order.
