Turn Bluetooth on and off

You can turn off Bluetooth when you’re in places where radio communication may be prohibited, such as in an airplane or a hospital.

Choose Turn Bluetooth On or Turn Bluetooth Off from the Bluetooth status menu in the menu bar.

If the Bluetooth status menu isn’t visible, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Bluetooth, and then select the “Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar” checkbox.

You can also turn Bluetooth on or off by selecting or deselecting the On checkbox in Bluetooth preferences.

If you are using an external USB Bluetooth adapter, the On checkbox may not appear in Bluetooth preferences. If it doesn’t, unplug the adapter to turn off Bluetooth.
