Upgrade to the new Home architecture
Learn how to upgrade to the new, more reliable, and more efficient Home architecture.
Before you upgrade
Update your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, HomePod, and Apple Watch to the latest software. Any device that is connected to an upgraded home and not running the latest software will lose access to the home until the device is updated. This includes people that you invite to control your home.
A home hub, such as an Apple TV or HomePod, is required to share control of your home and to receive Home notifications on the new Home architecture. iPad is not supported as a home hub on the new Home architecture.
Check that you and people that you invite to control your home have turned on two-factor authentication for Apple ID and iCloud for Passwords and Keychain.
Upgrade in the Home app
Follow these steps to upgrade any homes you set up to the new Home architecture. All of the homes that you own are upgraded at the same time.
Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad running the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, or Mac running the latest version of macOS.
Tap or click the More button
.Select Home Settings. If you own multiple homes, choose one, then select Home Settings.
Select Software Update.
Tap or click Learn More under Home Upgrade Recommended, then follow the prompts to upgrade. If Home Upgrade Recommended doesn't appear, you already upgraded your home.
