Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

  1. Place the open iPhone in the inner display fixture.

  2. Slide a sticky note back and forth along the top right corner of the iPhone to position it under the cover layer. Then use the sticky note to lift the corner of the cover layer.

    • Once the corner of the cover layer is lifted, peel it off the inner display at a 45-degree angle in one motion until it's completely removed from the inner display.

      • Note: Pulling the cover layer at a 45-degree angle will reduce the amount of adhesive residue left on the inner display.

    • Caution: Don't use hard or sharp tools to lift the cover layer.

  3. Use an ethanol wipe to thoroughly clean any remaining adhesive residue on the inner display. Ensure that you remove and clean any adhesive trapped under the trim as well.

    • Important: Don't use IPA wipes.

  4. Use a microfiber cloth to remove any remaining adhesive residue, dust, or particles.

  5. Use compressed air to remove any dust or small particles.

Reassembly

Inner display fixture and inner display base

Inner display fixture parts

  • Rotation knob (1)

  • Rotation lock (2)

  • Y-axis knob (3)

  • X-axis lock (4)

  • Y-axis lock (5)

  • X-axis knob (6)

  1. Place the inner display fixture with the iPhone in it in the inner display base.

  2. Insert the support bar in the fixture as shown. Then lower the support bar so it lies flat.

  3. Lay a replacement cover layer on top of the iPhone. Align the cover layer pinholes over the fixture pins and let the cover layer rest directly on the inner display.

  4. Turn the rotation knob to align the cover layer with the inner display.

    • Important: Use the enclosure trim and the outer front camera hole as a guide.

  5. Once the cover layer is aligned with the inner display, turn the rotation lock to lock the cover layer into place.

  6. Flip down the black locking bar and the red lever on the fixture as shown.

  7. Using the outer front camera hole in the cover layer as a guide, turn the X- and Y-axis knobs to fine-tune the alignment.

    • Important: Ensure that you're looking directly over the camera hole. The camera hole in the cover layer must be perfectly aligned with the outer front camera. If it's not perfectly aligned, continue turning the X- and Y-axis knobs to refine the alignment.

  8. Once the outer front camera is perfectly aligned, turn the Y-axis lock to lock the cover layer into place on the Y-axis.

  9. Find the X-axis knob adjustment number on the micrometer and add 13 to that number. For example, if the knob is at 34, the final adjustment number would be 47.

  10. Once all the adjustments are made, lock the X-axis knob with the X-axis lock.

  11. Tilt up the cover layer as shown and use compressed air to remove all dust particles from the inner display.

  12. With the cover layer still lifted, grasp the white tab on the bottom adhesive liner and remove the liner from the cover layer. Raise the support bar and align the cutouts in the cover layer with the pins on the fixture. Rest the cover layer on the support bar as shown.

    • Caution: Ensure that the cover layer adhesive doesn't touch the inner display until you're ready to adhere it.

  13. Position the roller on the roller assembly. Then push down the red clamps on the base as shown to lock the roller in the fixture.

  14. Holding one end of the cover layer with one hand and the roller with the other hand, roll across the surface of the inner display. Maintain a 20-degree angle while rolling until you reach the hinge.

    • Once you reach the hinge, lift the cover layer to a 70-degree angle to avoid creating air bubbles near the hinge.

    • Once you roll past the hinge, lower the cover layer back to a 20-degree angle and continue to roll across the inner display.

    • Roll over the cover layer back and forth five times.

  15. Flip up the red clamps on the base to unlock the roller. Remove the roller from the fixture. Flip up the red clamp on the fixture. Then use the squeegee to remove any visible air bubbles on the cover layer.

    • Important: If the squeegee tape is damaged, replace it.

  16. Let the cover layer set for 1 minute. Flip up the black locking bar on the fixture. Then peel the top liner off the cover layer.

    • Important: Peel the top liner at a 180-degree angle as shown to avoid lifting the cover layer off of the inner display.

  17. Use the squeegee to remove any remaining air bubbles.

  18. Ensure that the cover layer is properly aligned with the camera and enclosure and there are no air bubbles. If the cover layer isn't properly installed, repeat all removal and reassembly steps.
