supervised device
A device that has a more granular level of management, allowing restrictions such as turning off iMessage or Game Center. A supervised device also provides additional device configurations and features, such as web content filtering, and the ability to silently install configuration profiles and apps. With Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager, supervision can be wirelessly enabled on the device as part of the MDM enrollment process, or it can be enabled manually using Apple Configurator 2. Only devices with iOS 5 or later can be supervised. Supervised devices are usually owned by the organization and distributed to employees or students, either on a one-to-one basis or shared among them.
