Before installing any upgrade, it’s important to back up your Mac. Time Machine makes it simple, and other backup methods are also available.

Your Mac needs 12.5GB of available storage space, or up to 18.5GB of space when upgrading from OS X Yosemite or earlier.

Download macOS Catalina
If you’re using macOS Mojave, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Software Update where you’ll find the upgrade. If you’re using an earlier macOS, use the App Store instead.

Sidecar
With Sidecar, you can use your iPad as a second display that extends or mirrors your Mac desktop. You can also use Apple Pencil to draw and sketch on your iPad while seeing the updates live on your Mac.

Use Screen Time to monitor usage, schedule downtime, and set limits for apps and websites on your Mac and other devices.

The new Find My app combines Find My iPhone and Find My Friends into a single, easy-to-use app that’s now available on the Mac. Use it to locate your friends and family, share your location, and find missing devices—even if they’re offline.
