Change Siri volume and speaking rate

Learn how to change how loudly, quietly or quickly Siri speaks on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, HomePod and in CarPlay. You can also adjust how long Siri waits for you to finish speaking.

Change Siri's volume

For most devices, you can ask Siri to speak louder or quieter. You can also use the volume buttons on the device while Siri is speaking.

Change Siri's volume on your iPhone and iPad

If you want to change Siri's speaking volume, press the volume buttons on the side of your iPhone, iPad or your headphones while Siri is speaking.

If you can't hear Siri on your iPhone, you may need to turn the ringer on.

Change Siri's volume on your HomePod

You can ask Siri to speak louder, quieter or at a specific volume. Say "Hey Siri", then say something like:

  • "Speak louder".

  • "Always speak quieter".

  • "Set your volume to 60 per cent".

HomePod will adjust Siri's response volume automatically based on the level of noise in the room, your distance from HomePod and how loudly you're speaking to Siri. You can turn automatic volume on or off by saying "Hey Siri, turn on automatic Siri volume" or "Hey Siri, turn off automatic Siri volume".

Change Siri’s volume in CarPlay

While Siri is speaking, or while you are holding the button to activate Siri, use your car's volume controls to adjust the volume. This control is usually on the steering wheel or on the car’s display.

Change Siri's speaking rate

If you have iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or later, you can change how quickly or slowly Siri speaks on an iPhone or iPad. This change also affects a paired Apple Watch and CarPlay. With iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, you can also adjust Siri's pause time.

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap Accessibility.

  3. Tap Siri.

  4. Choose Default, Longer or Longest for Siri Pause Time.

  5. Slide the Speaking Rate slider to the right for faster speech or to the left for slower speech.
