Use Live Translation with the Messages app

  1. On your iPhone, go to the Messages app and tap the message you want to translate.

  2. In the message, tap the person’s name at the top of the screen.

  3. Scroll down and tap to turn on Automatically Translate. Messages may detect the language used in the conversation and suggest it for translation. Or tap Choose Other Language to select one yourself.

  4. Tap to choose the language to translate from. It will download if it hasn’t already been installed, which may take a few minutes.

  5. Tap to go back to your message and enter a message to start the translation. The translation will appear as you type. When you tap send, the other person will receive the translation as well as your original message. Messages you receive will be translated from your preferred language as well.

  4. Tap Start Translation, which alerts both parties that the call is being translated. As you speak, the other person will hear a spoken translation of what you’re saying, and their response will also be translated. You can also read an onscreen transcription.
