Trade in your iPhone, Apple Watch or Android device
When you trade in a device with your purchase of a new iPhone or Apple Watch, you’ll receive a kit that has everything you need to send your trade-in device to Apple.
Before you send in your device
Prepare your device for trade-in and protect your personal information.
Back up and erase your device
For an Android device, back up your data, then erase the device to return it to factory settings.
Suspend mobile service
If your iPhone or Android device uses a physical SIM card, remove it.
If your iPhone or Android device uses eSIM, contact your wireless provider to suspend service.
If you’re trading in a cellular Apple Watch, remove the active mobile plan.
Pack your device for trade-in
The kit you receive from Apple has everything you need to pack up your trade-in device – including a postage box or cardboard envelope to pack your device and the return postage label or commercial invoice.
Don’t include anything else in the box – such as a case, power adapter, cables, watch bands or other accessories. If you do, they won’t be returned to you.
If you’re trading in multiple devices, only include one device per trade-in kit. Make sure you’re using the right kit by checking that the Quote ID Number on your return postage label matches the Quote ID Number in your confirmation email for that device.
Pack your device in a postage box
Lift the cardboard insert from the postage box, place your device into the insert with the screen facing up, then press down lightly on the insert to secure your device.
Close the postage box and seal it with tape.
Pack your device in a cardboard envelope
Unfold the cardboard envelope – including the flaps at each end of the envelope and the padded flaps on one side of the envelope.
Place your device between the padded flaps, then fold the flaps securely over your device.
Fold the cardboard envelope until the last panel, then remove the tape cover strip and fold the last panel, pressing firmly to secure.
Fold the end flaps and press firmly.
Send your device to Apple
