Pair and manage your Matter accessories
Pairing smart home accessories to your iPhone or iPad allows you to set up, configure and control them. You can pair Matter accessories to your iPhone or iPad using any app that supports the Matter smart home standard.
Before you begin
Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest software.
Make sure you're signed in with the Apple Account that you used to set up your Matter accessories.
The Home app currently supports these types of Matter accessory: air conditioners, bridges, lights, locks, sockets, switches, thermostats, blinds and shades, and sensors (motion, ambient light, contact, temperature and humidity).
Pair a Matter accessory
To ensure your privacy and keep you in control of your smart home network, apps must request access to add an accessory to your home. And to support interoperability and ease-of-use across apps and smart home ecosystems, you can easily add Matter accessories that were previously paired with other apps from any app that supports the Matter smart home standard.
Add a Matter accessory to the Home app
If you have iOS 18, you can add and control Matter accessories to the Home app without a home hub. And with iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max and later, you can control thread-based accessories without a hub.* However, for the best experience set up a home hub to add supported Matter and thread-based accessories to the Home app.
Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad and tap the
.Tap Add Accessory. If your Matter accessory was previously paired to another app, tap More options, then select your Matter accessory.
Follow the onscreen instructions to finish the setup process.
To add a previously paired accessory to a third-party app that supports Matter, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to add a new accessory and select the previously paired accessory.
Paired Matter accessories sync using iCloud Keychain regardless of which device or app you used to set them up, so you can view all of your paired Matter accessories in one place under Settings > Matter Accessories. Pairing keys stored in iCloud Keychain are end-to-end encrypted. No one else can access or read this data, either in transit or storage.

*Thread-based accessories require a Thread-enabled home hub such as Apple TV 4K, HomePod (2nd generation), HomePod mini or a compatible third-party Thread border router. Thread-enabled iPhone devices running iOS 18 are able to locally pair and manage Thread accessories, which may require an update from the accessory manufacturer.
