Mac mini (2024) Front USB-C Ports

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Torque driver (orange, 0.85 kgf cm)

  • Torx Plus 3IP 44 mm half-moon bit

  • Torx Plus 8IP 89 mm bit

  • USB-C charge cable

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Removal

  1. Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the three 3IP screws (923-11048) from the front USB-C ports connector cowling.

  2. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to remove the 8IP standoff screw. Save the screw for reassembly. Remove the front USB-C ports connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

  3. Use the black stick to lift the end of the front USB-C ports flex cable off the connector.

  4. Use the black stick to lift the end of the antenna connector board flex cable off the connector. Then remove the flex cable from the housing and save it for reassembly.

  5. Stand the computer on its front with the back ports facing up as shown.

  6. Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to remove the four 3IP screws (923-11043) from the front USB-C ports.

  7. Lay the computer on a clean, flat surface with the back ports facing you.

  8. Lift the front USB-C ports out of the housing.

Reassembly

  1. Lower the front USB-C ports into the housing and align them with the openings in the housing.

  2. Stand the computer on its front with the back ports facing up as shown.

  3. Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to partially reinstall the four 3IP screws (923-11043) into the front USB-C ports.

  4. Lay the computer on a clean, flat surface with the front ports facing you. Then plug both ends of a USB-C charge cable into the front USB-C ports to ensure front USB-C ports alignment. Adjust the alignment of the front USB-C ports until both ends of the USB-C charge cable are easy to insert and remove.

  5. Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to fully reinstall the four 3IP screws into the front USB-C ports.

  6. Press the ends of the front USB-C ports flex cable and antenna connector board flex cable to the connectors on the logic board.

  7. Position the front USB-C ports connector cowling over the connectors.

  8. Set the torque value on the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to 0.3 Nm.

  9. Use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to reinstall the 8IP standoff screw.

  10. Use the orange torque driver and 3IP bit to reinstall the three 3IP screws (923-11048) into the front USB-C ports connector cowling.
