Mac OS X Server v10.6: Disabling Server Bonjour Registration broadcast to client computers

Mac OS X Server v10.6 lets you disable the Server Bonjour Registration invites to client computers by deselecting the "Client Binding Discovery With Bonjour" option in the Settings window of Server Admin. This option leaves the broadcast running and tells clients to ignore any invitations so that users are not presented with server binding information when initially configuring the computer.

To prevent the server and its available services from being broadcast altogether, follow these steps:

  1. In Terminal, execute this command
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.servermgr_info noOsxsvrBonjourReg -bool true
  1. To ensure the .plist is left in the standard format, execute this command:
    plutil -convert xml1 /Library/Preferences/com.apple.servermgr_info.plist
