Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2: Setting Java Applet preferences

Following the installation of Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2,  Applet Preferences are no longer available in the "Java Preferences" application located in (/Applications/Utilities/Java).

These settings may still be adjusted for development and diagnostic purposes by editing the content of the "" file located in the user home folder under ~/Library/Caches/Java.

To pass arbitrary arguments to the J2SE 5.0 Java Virtual Machine you should first locate or, if not present, add the following line to the "" file:


Arguments may be appended to this line separated by spaces, as they would on the command line. The following example will set the minimum heap size to 64MB and maximum heap size to 256MB:

deployment.javapi.jre.1.5.0.args=-Xmx256m -Xms64m

To enable font-smoothing in all Java Applets, the following line should be added or existing entry modified:
