Notes

  • The contents of the iMac update 1.0 have been incorporated into Mac OS 8.5. You will not need to install this update on any M6709x/B (Rev. B) iMac or later, or on any original iMac that has been upgraded to Mac OS 8.5 in any language.

  • This file is only needed if you are having difficulty making and maintaining modem connections. It is installed by the Mac OS 8.5 that ships with the Rev. B iMac. It is not part of the retail Mac OS 8.5 package.

  • In early versions of the Rev. B iMac, the modems will not have the version 2.2 firmware installed. As such, you should run the modem updater located in the CD Extras folder of the System Software CD bundled with iMac.

  • The iMac CD Update 2.0 incorporates the iMac CD Update 1.0. Apple recommends all iMac users with tray loading CD-ROM drives to install the 2.0 update.

  • Apple recommends all Mac OS 8.5 owners install this update.

  • The iMac Firmware Update 4.1.9 will only run on iMac computers with slot-loading CD, CD-RW or DVD drives running Mac OS 9.1 from a local drive.

  • Customers outside the United States should use the localized version of the update to ensure proper operation.

  • The iMac Update 1.1 requires the prior installation of Mac OS 8.5 or 8.5.1, and the iMac Firmware Update. If you have an original iMac running Mac OS 8.1, you cannot use the iMac Update 1.1 until you update to Mac OS 8.5 or later.

  • The iMac Firmware Update version 1.2 should be installed on all iMac computers used in NetBoot client environments. The update also corrects a rare condition wherein SGRAM amounts over 2MB may not be properly identified at startup. This update incorporates the iMac Firmware Update 1.1.

  • Apple recommends that every iMac customer running Mac OS 8.6 install this update. For additional information on this update please read article 60408: "Mac OS ROM Update 1.0: Read Me"

  • iMac DVD Update 1.0 places new firmware on the DVD-ROM shipped in iMac DV and iMac DV Special Edition computers. This update improves the ability of iMac DV models to read certain CD-ROM discs and to determine if a disc is unreadable. For additional information on this update please read article 58557: "iMac DVD Update 1.0: Read Me"

  • The Apple DVD Player is a full-featured, software-only DVD player for Mac OS 9.1 and later.

  • Theater mode brightens movie playback in some applications, such as iMovie and QuickTime Player. This update resolves compatibility issues with the Theater Mode Extension for OS 9, QuickTime Player versions 4.1.4 and 5.0, and the Classic environment of Mac OS X 10.0 and later.

  • The Authoring Support Update installs new drivers for iTunes and Disc Burner which increase compatibility. This update also includes the latest Apple System Profiler.

  • This update requires Mac OS 9.1. Disc Burner is not compatible with Macintosh Manager. A "disk full" error message appears when you select a format for a blank CD.

  • Install this update if you have an iMac that was released in February or July 2001. If your iMac does not require this update, the Installer will display a message saying that you do not need this update.

  • The update installs version 2.3 of the Conextant firmware, which contains the latest version of both V.90 and the K56flex protocols.

  • The iMac Firmware Update 4.1.9 will only run on iMac computers with slot-loading CD, DVD or CD-RW drives running Mac OS 9.1 or later from a local drive. If you are using Mac OS X you must boot from a local Mac OS 9.1 or later writable partition (not a CD, or network disk) prior to following the update instructions.

  • iMac (Slot Loading) computers that came with Mac OS 8.6 do not require the USB Mass Storage Support 1.3.5 update.

  • The version of iTunes that comes with the iMac (Flat Panel) computer requires iPod Software Updater 1.0.4 or later to use the iPod with this version of iTunes.

  • This update is for iMac computers using Mac OS X 10.1.5 build 5T91

  • Before you install Mac OS X, you may need to update your computer's firmware

  • The Mac OS X Modem Update resolves a rare issue in which a built-in modem cannot dial up when using Mac OS X 10.2 to 10.2.1

  • The iMac SuperDrive Firmware Update 1.0 application installs new firmware on the SuperDrive which addresses an incompatibility with 4x DVD-R and 2x DVD-RW media and the 2x SuperDrive in the iMac. This update is required only for iMac models with 15" flat panel displays and an internal SuperDrive.
