Certain Mac models support external displays with 8K resolution, higher refresh rates of up to 240Hz when using 4K resolution, and expanded support for variable refresh rate (VRR).

Set up your display
Connect your display, then set the resolution and refresh rate.
Connect your display
Connect the HDMI cable directly from the HDMI port on your Mac to your display.
To get the highest resolution and refresh rate, don’t use an adapter with the HDMI cable.
Set resolution and refresh rate for your display
After connecting your display, use Display settings on your Mac to set the display's resolution and refresh rate.
On some displays, you might first need to use the display’s built-in menus to enable 8K resolution and VRR. On some TVs, these settings appear under different names such as “game mode” for VRR and “input signal plus” for 8K resolution. Check the documentation for your display for more information.
