Use Magnifier on your iPhone or iPad

With Magnifier, you can turn your iPhone or iPad into a magnifying glass to zoom in on and detect objects near you.

Find and open the Magnifier app

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Magnifier app. If you don't see the Magnifier app, on the Home Screen, swipe down and search for Magnifier.

Magnifier should not be relied upon in circumstances where you may be harmed or injured, in high-risk or emergency situations, or for navigation.

Enhance your view

Magnifier can make an object easier to see by zooming in, applying color filters, adding light with the flashlight, and adjusting the brightness or contrast of the image.

Adjust the brightness or contrast

Tap the Brightness button or Contrast buttonNo alt supplied for Image and drag the slider.

Apply color filters

Tap the Filters buttonNo alt supplied for Image and swipe across the different color filters to view their effects.

Freeze the frame

  1. Tap the Freeze Frame buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

  2. Use the controls to zoom and adjust the image.

  3. When you finish making adjustments:

    • To save the image to your Photos library, tap the Share buttonNo alt supplied for Image and tap Save Image.

    • To freeze another frame, tap the Multi-Photo Mode buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

    • To return to the live lens, tap the End buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

Detect people around you

Requires iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, or later Pro model with iOS 14.2 or later

You can use Magnifier to detect people and help you maintain a physical or social distance between others. When your iPhone detects people nearby, you're notified with sounds, speech, or haptic feedback. The notifications are more frequent when a person is closer to you.

Detect doors around you

Requires iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, or later Pro model with iOS 16 or later

You can use Magnifier to locate a door or entryway, understand how far you're standing from the door, figure out how to open the door and anticipate which way it might swing open, and read any signs or labels on or around the door.

With Point and Speak, Magnifier can identify and read text on physical objects that you point to–like keypads on doors or buttons on electrical appliances–to help you interact with them more easily.

Quickly access Magnifier

If you use Magnifier frequently, you can create an Accessibility Shortcut to open it with the triple-click of a button. You can also add Magnifier to Control Center for easier access.
