If you installed Windows 10 using Boot Camp Assistant before November 25, 2016 on a MacBook Pro introduced in October 2016*, it's important that you install the Audio Driver Update for Boot Camp using Apple Software Update for Windows to avoid issues with your speakers.

  1. As a precaution during this process, plug headphones into the headphone jack of your MacBook Pro to keep audio from playing through its speakers.
  2. Boot into Windows 10 in Boot Camp, and make sure that you have an Internet connection.
  3. Use the search box on the Windows 10 taskbar to find and open Apple Software Update. If your Mac needs the update, "Audio Driver Update for Boot Camp" appears.
  4. Check the box next to the update and click "Install 1 item," or choose to install all available updates.
  5. If Windows asks you to "Allow this app to make changes to your device," click Yes.
  6. When the installation finishes and you're prompted to restart, click Yes.

*Applies to all MacBook Pro 13-inch and 15-inch models introduced in October 2016.

Verify that the update is installed

You can look in the Windows 10 Programs and Features control panel to make sure that you're using the correct software version:

  1. In Windows 10, press the Command key (the equivalent of the Windows key), and then type "Programs and Features."
  2. In the menu that appears, select Programs and Features.
  3. Look through the list of programs. If "Windows Driver Package - Cirrus Logic, Inc. MEDIA (11/22/2016 6.6001.3.36)" is listed, then Audio Driver Update for Boot Camp has been installed correctly.
