Xsan 5 volumes might be temporarily inaccessible after some operations

Some Xsan 5 volumes with macOS 10.12 and 10.12.1 installed might be temporarily inaccessible on after certain filesystem operations that involve resource forks. Learn how to fix this issue.

You can fix this issue by updating all of your Xsan 5 MDCs to 10.12.2 or later.

Some examples of these operations are:

  • changing ownership on a file with a resource fork.

  • setting a resource fork on a file.

  • propagating permission changes on a directory containing files with resource forks.

When this happens, Xsan client systems see volume disconnect messages and administrators receive Xsan volume failover notifications.
